【en】Kazakhstan’s KazAzot and Toyo Engineering Sign MOU on Decarbonization and Urea Fertilizers

Toyo Engineering Corporation announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KazAzot Prime LLP, a chemical fertilizer manufacturer in the Republic of Kazakhstan, to cooperate in the fields of decarbonization technologies and urea fertilizers. The MOU was unveiled at the “Central Asia + Japan Business Forum” held in Tokyo on December 20, 2025.
Toyo Engineering’s urea granulation technology has already been adopted for a planned plant in Kazakhstan, and the new agreement further strengthens the partnership between the two companies. Kazakhstan, while rich in natural resources, faces an urgent need to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and secure stable food supplies. Toyo Engineering aims to contribute to the country’s energy transition and more efficient urea fertilizer production by leveraging its proprietary technologies and experience in decarbonization projects.
Although this cooperation may appear to be a specialized corporate initiative, it has potential implications for everyday life in Japan. Urea fertilizers are essential for agricultural production, and stable supply and improved efficiency can help stabilize domestic food prices. Progress in decarbonization cooperation may also mitigate indirect impacts on energy prices by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and exposure to fluctuations in international energy markets. Furthermore, the expansion of overseas operations by Japanese companies can support domestic employment, enhance technological competitiveness, and contribute to long-term development of human resources and related industries.
