Every October, the “Nada Fighting Festival” held at Matsubara Hachiman Shrine in Himeji, Hyogo, roars with energy. Counted among Japan’s three most powerful festivals, it features massive 2-ton mikoshi (portable shrines) colliding in thrilling battles. Golden ornaments, lantern-lit nights, and taiko drums fill the air with power and beauty. The passion of the men carrying the mikoshi and the electrifying atmosphere make it a must-see Japanese tradition.
